Renfrew, Scotland | Renfrew Rocks welcomed current Scottish Cup holders, Falkirk Fury, to Renfrew Leisure Centre for the opening game of the season.
A new look squad got off to a good start in the opening minutes, with new signing Calum Alexander leading the way with strong moves to the basket coupled with good freethrow shooting from Milo Lockhart. Experience and stellar shooting from former Glasgow Rocks guard, Bantu Burroughs saw Falkirk open up a double digit lead to end the opening period.
A faster start from the home side saw them close the gap to single digits early, with another good opening to the quarter. Big 3s from sharp shooters Liam Stevenson and Thomas McGorran proved enough for a Fury timeout. A solid quarter offensively allowed Renfrew to close the gap but better defence would be required in the second half to turn things around in the second half.
Poor offensive turnovers were the theme to open the second half as the speed picked up, but the scoreboard slowed down. Poor miscommunications on the defensive end allowed Falkirk to open the gap back up and locked in on defence to smother the Rocks' offensive power through the half.
Renfrew 55-87 Falkirk.
